Polls always fascinate me. Not the political-type ones but the quirkier ones. You never know how weird you are or where you stand in this kooky world unless you know where other people are. Nothing is more comforting than being able to say “Well at least I’m not as much of a loser as that person.”
Here are some of the most interesting polls we’ve taken on Queendom on the topic of Beliefs and Values. (Note: Some of these polls only have a few hundred people, so take the results with a grain of salt):

Do you consider yourself normal?

Women (2041 votes)

  •  Yes, completely. There’s nothing weird about me – 9%
  • Mostly, but I have some quirks – 25%
  • I’m borderline; normal in some ways, unusual in others – 29%
  • Not really; I generally march to the beat of my own drum – 26%
  • Not at all; I’m about as quirky as it gets! – 10%

Men (718 votes)

  • Yes, completely. There’s nothing weird about me – 15%
  • Mostly, but I have some quirks – 24%
  • I’m borderline; normal in some ways, unusual in others – 26%
  • Not really; I generally march to the beat of my own drum – 23%
  • Not at all; I’m about as quirky as it gets! – 12%

My vote: I think I’ll go with majority and say that I’m normal in some ways, unusual in others.

My comment: Interesting how fewer people indicated that they are totally normal. I always tell people that the concept of “normal” is highly subjective. If the world were a continuum with normal on one end and wacky on the other, most people would fall somewhere in the middle.

Do you believe in destiny?

Women (1310 votes)

  • Strongly: a lot of things that happen in our life are predetermined – 19%
  • Somewhat: what happens in our life is a combination of destiny and our own decisions – 51%
  • Not really: fate may play a very small role, but mostly we decide our fate – 15%
  • Not at all: we control our own destiny – 11%
  • I’m undecided – 4%

Men (531 votes)

  • Strongly: a lot of things that happen in our life are predetermined – 15%
  • Somewhat: what happens in our life is a combination of destiny and our own decisions – 33%
  • Not really: fate may play a very small role, but mostly we decide our fate – 20%
  • Not at all: we control our own destiny – 27%
  • I’m undecided – 5%

My vote: Not at all – we control our destiny. I believe it…on an intellectual level at least. Whether it translates to my actions is a different story. I subscribe to the school of thought that what we give out we get in return.

My comment: Notice how men tend to have a much more internal locus of control, and believe in taking their life in their own hands. Men are so practically-minded sometimes. Try going to a guy for relationship advice – I’ve done it before. He gave me the most obvious course of action (“If A didn’t work, then do B. Why do you keep harping on A not working. Screw A. Do B.”) Of course, I didn’t listen. Because that’s what a lot of women do: we purposely make our lives unnecessarily complex by constantly worrying about outside factors and people.

Do you believe that there is life on other planets?

 Women (910 votes)

  • I’m sure of it! – 30%
  • I think it’s very possible – 45%
  • I highly doubt it, but anything is possible – 15%
  • Not at all  – 10%

Men (430 votes)

  • I’m sure of it! – 44%
  • I think it’s very possible – 41%
  • I highly doubt it, but anything is possible – 10%
  • Not at all  – 5%

My vote: I highly doubt it, but anything is possible.

My comment: Here’s an interesting statistic: our data shows that while men believe in aliens more than women do, women believe in ghosts more than men do. The question is, why? My theory is that men are more likely to watch sci-fi themed shows/movies, and women are more fascinated by the spiritual and mystical.

Who do you think has it “easier” in life – men or women?

Women (1446 votes)

  • Men – 69%
  • Women – 10%
  • Equal for both men and women – 21%

Men (466 votes)

  • Men – 40%
  • Women – 36%
  • Equal for both men and women – 23%

My vote: Equal for both men and women.

My comment: This was an interesting result…I can see “can of worms” written all over it. Being in a field that studies human behavior, I think I’m at an advantage here, and can say with total confidence that both men and women have their advantages and their difficulties. Enough said.

Insightfully yours,
