There is no &#8220;normal,&#8221; just many, many variations of &#8220;normal.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While doomsday theorists and philosophers might bemoan the fact that we&#8217;re destined to repeat the past, I find that I am always pleasantly surprised by some of the interesting results I uncover in my research. We may not be perfect, but we&#8217;re damn interesting creatures!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some intriguing insights I&#8217;ve uncovered from years of data analysis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#1 &#8211; Career women, stay-at-home moms, and working moms, although seemingly distinctive, actually share similar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=3619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">values<\/a>, including:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Family &amp; Friends: <\/strong>They greatly cherish their relationship with family and friends and derive much joy from being surrounded by those they love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Community Values:<\/strong>&nbsp;They are passionately involved in their community and social causes. They speak out against injustice and do their utmost to be good citizens and humanitarians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hard work &amp; Diligence:<\/strong>&nbsp;They&nbsp;understand and appreciate the importance of hard work. They put a dedicated effort&nbsp;into everything they take on, often going above and beyond the call of duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stability:<\/strong>\u00a0They value financial and career stability and\u00a0thrive on structure, taking a methodical approach to projects, goals, and problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"506\" height=\"335\" class=\"  wp-image-2451 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-1.jpg\" alt=\"image 1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-1.jpg 751w, https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><br><strong>#2 \u2013 Highly critical people are more likely to suffer from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">self-esteem<\/a> issues.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People who frequently criticize others are more likely to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Envy other people&#8217;s lives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worry constantly about being rejected by their friends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Believe that they will never amount to anything or anyone significant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modify their personality, opinions or appearance in order to be accepted by others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restrict their friendship to people who benefit their status in some way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#3 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=3127\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eating disorders<\/a> are both a physical and psychological battle.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to our study:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>45% of individuals diagnosed with an eating disorder have low self-confidence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>58% believe that they will never be loved unless they have a perfect body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>56% crave other people\u2019s approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>40% have a pessimistic outlook on their life and their future.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>70% ruminate excessively and obsess about problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>56% find that their life is too stressful or difficult.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>72% tend to take failure very hard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#4 \u2013 Certain thought patterns can increase our vulnerability to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=3896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">depression<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My research revealed that depressed people are more likely to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Attribute failure to internal causes.<\/strong><strong style=\"line-height: 1.7;\">&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No matter what&#8217;s going wrong in their lives\u2014a failed relationship, being laid off at work\u2014they automatically blame themselves, even when the failure isn&#8217;t their fault.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Suffer from attentional bias.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are more likely to focus excessively on or be more sensitive to negative comments, despite evidence to the contrary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Be extreme perfectionists.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They set unrealistic standards for themselves, and when they inevitably fail to live up to them, they become even more upset and depressed, creating an ugly, vicious cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Live in fear of other people&#8217;s judgment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They place a great deal of stock in other people&#8217;s opinions and worry a great deal about what friends, colleagues, and loved ones think of them. Any mistake or failure is evaluated in the context of, &#8220;What will other people think?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#5 \u2013 People still believe in\u2014and take steps to avoid\u2014the consequences of superstitions.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The top five superstitions based on data from Queendom&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paranormal Beliefs Test<\/a> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The belief that thinking negative thoughts can cause bad things to happen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unlike the negativity surrounding number 13, more than half of people believe that 7 is a very auspicious number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nearly half of the people surveyed believe that a curse awaits anyone who disturbs an ancient Egyptian tomb.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Breaking a mirror is still considered bad luck for a third of people surveyed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If they spill salt, every fourth person throws a pinch of it over their left shoulder to counter the evil associated with this superstition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"359\" height=\"366\" class=\"  wp-image-2452 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-2.jpg\" alt=\"image 2\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-2.jpg 501w, https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-2-294x300.jpg 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#<strong>6 \u2013 People who become\u00a0defensive in response to\u00a0constructive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=721\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">criticism<\/a> are more likely to hate their job.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After receiving negative criticism, 43% of unsatisfied employees respond by becoming disengaged from their job. They work less hard and put in the bare minimum effort to get tasks done (compared to 18% of satisfied employees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>29% of unsatisfied employees believe that their poor performance is due to the fact that the standards their customers, colleagues, or managers set for them are too high (compared to 15% of satisfied employees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>30% of unsatisfied employees view most people as being &#8220;cut-throat&#8221; and believe that these same people intentionally use criticism to bring others down (compared to 16% of satisfied employees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>44% of unsatisfied employees feel insulted when someone rejects their ideas (compared to 29% of satisfied employees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#7 \u2013 Men can be emotional eaters too.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My data reveals that the top <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=1565\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emotional eating<\/a> triggers for men are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trigger #1:&nbsp;The desire to be carefree<\/strong><strong style=\"line-height: 1.7;\">&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tell a person that they can&#8217;t have something and they&#8217;ll only want it more. That seems to be one of the emotional eating triggers for the men in my sample: They don&#8217;t like the feeling of restriction and limitation, especially when it comes to food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trigger #2:&nbsp;Self-sabotaging beliefs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While they recognize that emotional eating is not healthy, they sabotage their chances of curbing this habit by adopting beliefs like, &#8220;I don&#8217;t have the discipline needed to control my eating.&#8221; &#8220;It&#8217;s pointless to look after myself by eating healthy because I will never be good enough for anyone.&#8221; &#8220;I am too old to change my lifestyle.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#8 \u2013 Although a fear of failure is common, a fear of success can be just as debilitating.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collecting data from people who took Queendom&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=729\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Success Likelihood Test\u00a0<\/a>,I compared people who indicated that they are afraid to succeed to those who are not. Here are some the results:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>65% of people with a fear of success believe that success is a matter of fate, like being at the right place at the right time (compared to 55% of those who don&#8217;t have this fear).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>41% indicated that being the best performer or reaching the top of their field comes with a burden of responsibility they\u2019re not willing to bear (compared to just 17% who feel otherwise).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>33% dislike the idea of standing out because of their accomplishments (compared to 17%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20% experience &#8220;Impostor Syndrome,&#8221; feeling they don&#8217;t deserve their success or that it&#8217;s merely the result of luck, compared to just 5% among those who are unafraid of success.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#9 \u2013 People still have unhealthy beliefs about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emotions<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>32% of people purposely postpone or avoid discussing sensitive topics, like bringing up an issue that could result in an argument.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>54% of men and 35% of women will not allow themselves to cry under any circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If they have an uneasy feeling about a situation or a person\u2014what we like to call a &#8220;gut feeling&#8221; or &#8220;intuition&#8221;\u201431% of men and 24% of women will IGNORE IT!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Along the same vein, 63% of men and 54% of women believe that emotions have no place in the decision-making process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#10 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queendom.com\/tests\/take_test.php?idRegTest=3092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Weight loss<\/a> troubles: It might be what&#8217;s in your head, not in your belly.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re doing everything right on your weight loss journey like eating healthy and exercising and don&#8217;t have a medical issue that can hinder your progress, it may be time to explore the thoughts you&#8217;re feeding yourself. For example, among the overweight and obese people I analyzed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>60% demonstrate a low tolerance for frustration, seeking immediate gratification. This tendency means they are more likely to give up if they don\u2019t see quick results from their efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>55% use food to deal with unpleasant emotions like sadness, anger, rejection, or anxiety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>59% have a tendency to procrastinate. Essentially, the &#8220;I&#8217;ll work out tomorrow&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;ll start making smarter food choices tomorrow!&#8221; often turns into next week, two months from now, or years later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>45% said that they consider a healthy lifestyle a &#8220;hassle.&#8221; Here&#8217;s the problem: Most people try to do too much too quickly. Rather than cutting down on a few unhealthy foods at a time, they go cold turkey (pun intended). So it&#8217;s no surprise that after two weeks of a strict &#8220;only-veggies-and-lean-protein&#8221; diet, they have a sudden, inexplicable craving for something laden with gravy, bacon, and cheese.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"374\" height=\"510\" src=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-3.jpg\" alt=\"image 3\" class=\"wp-image-2453\" style=\"width:299px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-3.jpg 374w, https:\/\/www.queendom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/image-3-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Insightfully yours,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Queen D<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Human behavior can be puzzling&mdash;and sometimes, the research is even more surprising.
