Let's Celebrate!

"There's a party going on right here A dedication to last throughout the years So bring your good times, and your laughter too We gonna celebrate and party with you - Come on now."

Let's Celebrate!

We all deserve a pat on the back now and then, a little praise and encouragement for simply being ourselves. Who doesn't like to hear, "You're doing a great job," "You're lookin' fine," or "Your friendship is important to me." We need this not only for the big events in our lives, like graduations, new jobs, baby and marriage, but also for the smaller things that are nonetheless meaningful to us. Maybe you've been going to the gym and are starting to see the difference in your body, or quit a nasty habit, saved the money for that new stereo, or poured your heart and soul into a project at work or school. We often wait for other people to notice these things, and give us our "reward". Well, why not reward ourselves?

That's right - celebrate the things you feel good about. It's not important if they seem like minor accomplishments to others, what matters is their meaning in your life. Make a conscious decision to commemorate those successes, whether its by having an all out wild party with friends or treating yourself to a new classical CD. Here are some ways you could celebrate (Just to spark your imagination, of course; you need to make your own list):

  • Crank the music in your apartment and dance with friends, your loved one or, if he's in the mood, your cat.
  • Rent some equipment and do a sport you love (skating, skiing, surfing, snorkeling...) or try a new one.
  • Treat yourself to a new outfit, or just that special accessory.
  • Have a big breakfast in a café with a good friend before work.
  • Buy a book and spend a whole day relaxing, drinking coffee and reading.
  • Buy a key chain or pendant and get something engraved to commemorate the occasion.
  • Your imagination is the limit - just try and do something special; something you don't do very often and will truly appreciate.
  • Whatever you do, don't feel guilty, or downplay your accomplishment - if you feel good about something, it warrants celebration. So get out there and party!

Make a list of your accomplishments. Refer to it whenever you need a boost.
