Mental block

QUESTION:

your avatar   Mary (33 year old woman) from Chicago, Illinois

When I am around people I feel stress all the time. I have trouble remembering things; I make mistakes and have trouble retrieving information from my mind. I have been this way as long as I can remember. Other people notice this; I have been called a "scatter brain". What can possibly be wrong with me?

ANSWER:

    Tina Reed, MA, LPC

Dear Mary

Working in the medical field is very stressful. It could be a lot of things causing your forgetfulness. First, you need to have a complete physical (if you haven't already) to rule out any medical conditions that might be causing these symptoms. If everything checks out medically, then you need to consider talking with a mental health professional. Perhaps there is one in the facility in which you work; or if you prefer to remain anonymous, your personal physician can refer you to someone in another facility. Lastly, when was your last vacation? That might be all you need. Just take some time off and get away from it all!!

God bless you,
